Learn how to summon the deadly Golem in Terraria, and the best strategy to defeat it. The Golem is a hulking giant made out of stone located post-Plantera. The Golem is classified as a hardmode boss found in the Jungle Temple. It is one of the many bosses in the game, and you must defeat it to complete the title. Defeating the Golem is a great undertaking, but it is worth it to receive some rewards and to progress further in Terraria.

The Golem in Terraria can only be summoned at the Lihzahrd Altar at the heart of the Jungle Temple. You first must defeat the hardmode boss Plantera within the Underground Jungle to enter the temple. Plantera will drop the Temple Key, giving you access to the temple.

Once you reach the Lihzahrd Altar deep in the temple, you can summon the Golem with a Lihzahrd Power Cell. You can find Lihzahrd Power Cells in each of the Jungle Temples Lihzahrd chests or from enemy Lihzahrds and Flying Snakes; both enemies have a rare chance of dropping a Power Cell.

Before summoning the Golem, make sure you have the best gear and equipment on hand to take down the boss. While Terraria doesn’t have an official class system, each weapon is classified within the four damage type categories. The four weapon categories are melee, ranged, magic, and summoner.

The gear you wear is dependent on what weapon class you prefer. Check below to see the best equipment for the four classes in Terraria:

  • Melee – The best equipment would be the Chlorophyte or Trutle armor, with the Death Sickle or the Starlight blade weapons.
  • Ranged – The best equipment would be the Shroomite Armor with the Megashark.
  • Magic – The best equipment would be the Spectre Armor with the Inferno Fork weapon. The Nimbus Rod could also be a great weapon against the Golem as it can summon clouds to rain on it.
  • Summoner – The best equipment would be the Tiki Armor or Spooky Armor, with the Dark Harvest Whip and Blade Staff being the best-paired weapons.

Wings are absolutely vital for the fight against the Golem. You need Wings to fly around the arena and avoid the Golem’s attacks. Fast Shoes and the Shield of Cthulhu are also handy to increase your mobility. A Charm of Myth will also be useful in this fight, as it will regenerate some of your health.

The Golem will summon above you and immediately attack you with its fists. Use your Wings to fly around the arena and stay far away from the Golem. Fly directly above the boss to best avoid its attacks. Strike its fists rather than its main body. It’s more important to get rid of its hands before aiming at the torso.

When the Golem’s hands are destroyed, the boss will attack you with fireballs out of its mouth and lasers from its eyes. Aim at the main body, and once you’ve caused enough damage, the Golem’s head will detach and start attacking separately from its body.

Keep attacking the main body and dodge attacks from the head. Eventually, the Golem will be destroyed after you deal enough damage to its body.

Beating the Golem in Terraria will summon the Luantic Cultists to spawn at the Dungeon’s entrance. You need to confront the Lunatic Cultists to progress through the game. The Golem will also drop some rare accessories, items, and a single weapon. It will only drop one weapon, and your options would be a Picksaw, Heat Ray, Staff of Earth, Stynger Bolts, Possessed Hatchet, or Golem Fist.

Terraria is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, mobile devices, and the Steam Deck.
