If you’re jumping into Soulframe, chances are you have no idea what to do. I don’t blame you. The game bombards you with a lot of lore, rhymes, strange names, and many systems that don’t have a clear explanation. Yet, that’s part of the discovery charm of the game. One of the essential systems you need to become familiar with, though, is the Ancestors system. As you explore Midrath, you’ll find a few ghosts that will join you in your Nighthold and offer you their services. One of the most important in Soulframe is Tuvalkane, the Blacksmith, whom we’ll show you how to unlock. The video is right here if you prefer watching how to unlock them.
[Disclaimer: This guide contains information from Preludes 9, and we’ll update it once new patches come to the game.]
Finding the Blacksmith

The most challenging part of getting this Ancestor to help you is finding them. To locate the Blacksmith in Soulframe, you must head southeast from the starting area and find a crater surrounded by enemies and a cannon. That might be a bit too ambiguous for some, so let us tell you how we found the Fable breadcrumb:
- From the starting area, head west and follow the river north.
- Keep going until you find the second World Tree (marked on the image above).
- Interact with the World Tree to remove the map’s fog.
- Walk east, past the village, until you reach the crater (you can see the location on the above image).
- An easy way to locate the crater is by following the lightning strikes (they will point you toward the crater).

Starting ‘The Steelsinger’ Fable

Once you arrive at the location, defeat all enemies and head to the center of the crater where the cannon is. You’ll see a helmet on the ground. Grabbing it will start the Fable to unlock the Blacksmith in Soulframe.
Note: You’ll have to carry the helmet to a location on the map. If you’re playing solo, you can drop the helmet on the ground to fight. If you’re playing co-op, one player can carry the helmet while the other fights.

Once you or someone else in your party carries the helmet to the location, place it on the forge and let the cutscene play out. You’ll unlock Tuvalkane the Blacksmith for your Nigthold.

Using the Blacksmith

As usual, approach the blue light to spawn your new Ancestor into your Nighthold. Once Tuvalkane appears, you’ll get access to the crafting menu, showing you which weapons, armor, and items are available for you to create. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:
- If you want to raise your bond with this ancestor, only craft unique items. Duplicates won’t work to raise your bond with Tuvalkane. In other words, do not craft the same Polearm 20 times.
- Tuvalkane can help you craft items to change your faction.
- You can edit your weapon’s Joinery for added effects, such as increased damage.
Other than that, start crafting to your heart’s content. Making a new set of armor or a new weapon will take time and a lot of materials. But as usual, exploring Midrath should give you all you need, so go out there and start scouring the land.
