Those landing on Arrakis will soon discover that the worst enemy is dehydration. While there are stillsuits that will counter this and a lot of dew you can drink around the planet, you’ll eventually need a better way to drink water, and the best way to do so is by collecting blood. No. You’re not a sci-fi vampire. Instead, you’ll have to extract blood from enemies in Dune: Awakening and then build a blood purifier to turn it into drinkable water. Here, we’ve made a guide to show you everything you need to do to unlock this handy refinery for your base.
Unlocking the Blood Exsanguination Kit
This guide assumes you are following the game’s journey (tutorial). Those who skipped the tutorial can skip this part.
If you’re following your personal journey, you’ll need to reach the Water From Blood quest. This one will ask you to research the Basic Exsanguination Kit and craft a few items related to it.

To do so, head to your Research menu, unlock the Basic Exsanguination Kit and the Small Blood Sack. After you do that, craft both items and then head to an enemy camp.
Extracting Blood

You’ll have to find enemies around the map (camps are the best place to find them) and kill a few. Once you have the Blood Extractor in your inventory, aim at a dead enemy and extract their blood. The basic blood bag will let you extract blood from three corpses, for a total of 3.000 ml. If you want a bigger blood bag, you’ll have to continue your journey until you unlock better schematics. After extracting the blood, return to your base.
Unlocking the Blood Purifier
With the blood in your inventory, it is time to unlock one of the most useful schematics in Dune: Awakening, the Blood Purifier. The process is the same. Head to the Research tab and unlock your new item.

Once you have it, you’ll need 70 Salvaged Metal to build it. You can find Salvaged Metal inside enemy camps and around Hagga Basin. After you gather enough materials, whip out your construction kit and build it. Remember that you need energy inside your base for it to work.

After that, all you need to do is interact with the machine and deposit the blood you have. It will start processing it into water, which you can then drink or take with you if you have a container.

At the start of the game, this is the only way to increase your hydration levels above the first threshold. The downside is that you’ll need to find a lot of enemy NPCs to get their blood, and it might take a bit of time. But if you know where to look, you’ll have water for days inside your base.
