When you jump into a survival game like 7 Days To Die, it’s expected that you’ll tackle numerous survival-like features. Keeping your stomach full, your thirst quenched, and finding safety from the elements and zombies is a lot of work. But what about sleep? There’s a stamina bar and the ability to craft a bedroll, but nothing that indicates rest. So, since you can use a bedroll in 7 Days To Die, it’s no wonder many players wonder whether or not you can truly sleep.

[Updated July 30, 2024 – included updated images and mention of Challenges to reflect the 1.0 changes]

Despite the ability to craft a bedroll in 7 Days To Die, you cannot sleep. So, when nightfalls or the dreaded Blood Moon arrives, you can’t just tuck your bed somewhere safe and snore your way through the hungry horde. Things, unfortunately, work that way.

Now, just because you can’t sleep through the zombie apocalypse, that doesn’t negate how vital the bedroll is. You will need a bedroll because it serves as a respawn point.

Death is in the name of the game. If you expect to roam the unforgiving landscape of 7 Days To Die and not meet an unfortunate demise at some point, you’re more confident than most. So, you’ll want to craft and lay down a bedroll as soon as possible.

Thankfully, crafting a bedroll in 7 Days To Die takes little work. You can do so after only spending a brief time in the world. It’s connected to the Challenges and missions, so you’ll naturally get your way toward creating it after your initial meeting with the Trader. The task should show after you’ve claimed a spot and laid the first building block down.

The recipe for it is listed below:

  • Bedroll: x10 Plant Fibers | 2-second crafting time

Plant fibers are everywhere in the forest. You can gather more than enough by taking a few steps in one direction.

After you die, you can choose the option to “Spawn on Bedroll” as a quick way to use it for a respawn point in 7 Days To Die. Only consider the other option if you don’t mind a random spawn somewhere in the general vicinity of your bedroll. You’ll never lose track of your bedroll either because once you place it, it gets an icon on the map.

Additionally, while it can’t help you sleep at night, 7 Days To Die also uses a bedroll as a zombie spawn deterrent. No zombies will spawn near your bedroll. So, if you’re looking for a breather, set up camp. Perhaps build a chest too to store all the loot you’re bound to lose after dying.
