The world of Humans Took My Neighbors sounds like it’s in a parallel universe. Monsters from all races are gearing up for Halloween when humans suddenly appear from portals. Invading their peace, the Humans snatch away the Monsters to their own World, leaving behind a spooky mystery.

Humans Took My Neighbors follows the journey of vampire Anthony Albescu and werewolf Fenrietta Burnt. Their protective home of Monsternett is under attack, leaving it up to them to save their fellow Monsters. By using a wide variety of colorful weapons (such as unholy water, trustworthy yo-yo’s, and frisbees), Anthony and Fenrietta must take the fight back to the terrorizing Humans. Furthermore, Humans Took My Neighbors will feature several different endings, depending on your actions and if you can save your friends or not.

The idea behind Humans Took My Neighbors comes from the gaming experiences of Mexican solo developer Carlos Garza. The game features handmade pixel art reminiscent of classic SNES titles, with a touch of ARPG elements. Two of Garza’s favorites are retro 2D Zelda and Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Moreover, 8bit music creator Carf Darko is working on producing retro audio tunes for the indie title. Darko commented on the Kickstarter campaign story about his experience with Humans Took My Neighbors, saying:

When I first heard about the idea for a re-imagination of the oldschool zemn game I knew I wanted to be part of this. The combination of funk and horror is just a challenge which sounds like great fun to write. For each level I tried to come up with a different genre while try and re-use some of the instruments of the former song to keep it all part of the same piece.”

The Humans Took My Neighbors campaign is now live on Kickstarter. Garza’s goal is to reach $13,814. He currently has 16 backers pledging $629 thus far. The game is expected for a Q2 2022 release on PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch.
