Hunter Biden caught in a questionable stunt following move to dismiss his controversial laptop lawsuit ahead of South Africa visit. The American attorney who is the son of the former US President Joe Biden, filed a lawsuit against former Trump White House aide Garret Ziegler in 2023, over leaked files from his infamous laptop, including thousands of embarrassing photos. Nearly two years later, with the case yet to reach a resolution, the embattled businessman made a shocking move that has fueled conspiracy theories surrounding his laptop suit, and the scandalous presidential pardon his dad granted him in December 2024, just weeks before his administration ended.

Last Wednesday, Hunter Biden asked the federal court to voluntarily dismiss his lawsuit against Ziegler, despite the defendant’s continuous denial of his involvement in hacking or leaking content on his laptop. In his filing, the political scion argued that he had millions of dollars in debt, and was financially incapable of continuing the legal proceedings. Biden attributed his financial problems to the recent setback in his business, claiming no one bought his artwork or memoir anymore after his dad’s reign as president. He also cited the destruction of his home in the LA Wildfires, which further adds to his compounding losses.

The former White House aide protested the unforeseen move soon after, insisting he’d rather see the end of the case, to curb Biden’s lies against him, and ensure the attorney’s fees are paid. He also labeled Biden’s dismissal of the case as an “abuse of the legal system.” Garret Ziegler doubled down on his bid to keep up the laptop lawsuit, insisting Hunter Biden was in fact, only trying to dodge a deposition because of his planned trip to South Africa.

In a new filing countering Biden’s bid to dismiss the laptop lawsuit, Ziegler noted that the businessman’s situation was not as bad as he painted it. He alleged that Biden only portrayed it as such because he had a three-month vacation to South Africa planned and really wanted to go on it. He believes the vacation to his wife, Melissa Cohen’s home country, commences this week, forcing the ex-president’s son to make the decision in an attempt “to avoid his deposition.”

Furthermore, the new court filing claims this planned vacation may explain why Biden’s team has continuously ignored Ziegler’s attempts to “start settlement talks or enter into mediation” per New York Post. To verify this theory, the former Trump aide highlighted his efforts to verify “facts published in the New York Post” last week, which disclosed Biden’s home survived the LA Wildfires devastation contrary to his (Biden’s) claims that the fires left his home unlivable.

Garret Ziegler’s side called out Hunter Biden for using the LA wildfires as an excuse to avoid deposition, leaving the lawsuit, which has racked global attention, unresolved. Ziegler’s team acknowledged that the LA wildfires, which left thousands of homes in ruins and many more Americans momentarily displaced, indeed had a devastating impact on many. However, that in no way excused Biden’s alleged stunt. They wrote,

“It [the LA Wildfires] does not, however, serve as an excuse to avoid litigation responsibilities.”

Hunter Biden’s team has since retaliated, accusing Garrett Ziegler of filing “emotionally charged” court documents. Biden’s lawyers also accused Ziegler’s team of “gaslighting” and trying to downplay the devastating impact of the Los Angeles wildfires, describing their action as “despicable.” Although the former president’s son’s move to dismiss his lawsuit is indeed unexpected, Ziegler’s insistence on continuing the suit is even more shocking given the rarity of having defendants pushing to see a case through when the plaintiff decides to withdraw. Given the circumstances, one can only wonder if the need to have those attorney’s fees cleared is the driving force, or Ziegler’s team is onto a potentially incriminating conspiracy that could checkmate Biden in his legal suit.
