Massachusetts is a pretty liberal state, but even in New England, Trump’s policies and ICE threats loom large over the populace. In New Bedford, ICE terrorized a man and his wife as they boxed them in and did what they do best. Grab innocent people and bring them to places where they can’t be seen or usually heard from again. The latest footage of ICE and its tactics has taken the internet by storm.
In the stunning video posted on Reddit by ExactlySorta in the r/PublicFreakout channel, and originally reported by New Bedford Light, wild footage was captured of ICE agents boxing an innocent Guatemalan man and his wife, their car window being smashed in as he is then grabbed and taken away. All without a warrant, and no criminal record, as at the moment he has no known offenses of any kind.
Juan Francisco Méndez was taken to an undisclosed location and was in the process of trying to get his immigration status adjusted, as his wife was a beneficiary of an asylum program. His lawyer stated the following.
They are acting with total impunity, Imagine if a child had been in that car. I’m ashamed of what this country is becoming.
Many folks on Reddit took to arms at the blatant mistreatment of the couple, and had a lot to say about the increased ICE presence in New Bedford as of late.
“Larping in the neat uniforms is their second favorite part about being a Nazi”
“What if I told you Trump’s henchmen are not only inept and usually in bad physical shape, but the only qualification for the job is being racist and hating the constitution?”
“ICE isn’t doing anything American police departments haven’t been doing in marginalized communities for decades.”
“ICE is the new Gestapo.”
“That’s the worst part about all of this. The immigrants who have been following procedure for years are the ones getting kidnapped and threatened.”
Many folks are riled up and infuriated at how the ICE agents are acting with relative impunity, not having to answer for their actions or face any consequences for anything they do. We do not know his current status, but will be sure to deliver an update when we do.
