A disturbing scene unfolded in the hallways of a courthouse in San Diego when ICE officials wrongfully detained a man who then suffered a medical emergency in their hands. Failing to recognize the severity of the situation, the officials brushed it off. A video posted on Reddit captured the unsettling moment ICE agents put handcuffs on a man inside the courthouse. He was exiting the courtroom when several officers surrounded him.
The victimโs attorney initially tried to block the arrest by holding on to him, but the officers forced him to let go. Despite repeatedly asking for an arrest warrant, they failed to provide one.
Eventually, they put the victim in cuffs and blocked his attorney from coming close to him. The attorneyโs pleas for a warrant fell on deaf ears as the officers kept telling him to โtake a breath, calm down,โ and relax. The attorney replied, โYouโre taking him without a warrant. Can I please see a warrant?โ and one officer replied, โWe will [provide a warrant].โ However, none was presented
Amid the drama, the victim collapsed to the floor with his hands still cuffed behind his back. Immigration activists who were present at the scene began to point out that the man may need medical help.
However, the officers only raised him to his knees, leaned him against the wall, and nudged him in an attempt to resuscitate him. One even said, โTake a breath, sir, itโs not that serious,โ one of the activists replied, โIt is serious, itโs his life, why would you say that?โ Other people at the scene also called the officer out for being โ.
According to Inewsource, the officers eventually uncuffed and released the victim, but he had to lean on his attorney for support while leaving the courthouse. Outside, he was evaluated by paramedics before leaving the premises.
In response to the video, several critics condemned the actions of the ICE agents and the government as a whole. One commented: โF*cking terrorists. This whole regime is a terrorist, corrupt, dishonest, disgusting criminal organization.โ Another asked, โSo if he dies, whose responsibility is it? Yes, you guessed it. THEY DONโT CARE.โ
One social media user referred to ICE officials as โProud Boys with badges,โ and another likened them to โviolent J6 traitors who are excited to enact state-sanctioned violence on anyone and everyone.โ
Later in the video, the officers can be seen apparently arresting the right man. But once again, they broke the law doing it, albeit going against the judgeโs notice. Activists at the scene tried to stop them from taking him away because he had a judgeโs notice, but their protests fell on deaf ears, too.ย
Unfortunately, more similar cases have been reported in courthouses. In that same San Diego courthouse, at least eight people were taken into custody just last week. They willingly attended their scheduled court hearings when they were ambushed and arrested by ICE officials.
