Ignore the Noobs; Fortnite OG Rocks & Marks a Return to Glory Days

You can’t hate the old school!

Epic Games has recently put Fortnite on a rewind journey through the old-school seasons of Chapter One. From POIs to vehicles to Loot, everything is stuck in a glorious time warp. It’s been mostly very well received as a blast from the past that takes veteran players back to their roots with a fresh but familiar experience. Of course, not everyone is happy. There’s a segment of the community who are thanking the BR gods that the nostalgia trip is only lasting 4 weeks — and I think I know who they are, and why they’re so completely and utterly misguided.

Explaining Fortnite OG Hatred Amongst the Community

Bet a pound to a penny these players are Fortnite newcomers, used to wild crossovers and special events that bring everything from exotic loot to OP superpowers. By comparison, these noobs will (perhaps understandably) feel OG Fortnite is slow and pondering. It was the foundation on which all of the later content was built, of course, so it’s only natural the pace and depth of the game is less.

Recent years have brought more mobility options than ever before, including ODM Gear, Web Shooters, Kinetic Blades, Icy Slide, Geysers, Jump Pads, and Kinetic Blades just a few of them. I guess we can say that it’s understandable for newbies to complain as the game used to have a fast pace and then suddenly we jumped to Fortnite OG. But the oldschool Fortnite is so pure; it’s BR as it was originally intended — an arcadey PUBG destroyer, the spirit of which has been muddled and confused in more recent times.

Muddled is actually an understatement. Arguably, Chapter 4 Season 3 was a total disaster. The POIs were among the worst they’ve ever been. You couldn’t see anything through the trees and grass at all. Honestly, if I had continued to play Fortnite last season, my eye-glasses number would definitely skyrocket!

By comparison, Fortnite OG takes the game back to its roots and feels like a raw BR experience where Armors, Medkits actually have value. It’s more hardcore… well, by Fortnite standards, at least.

Slowly but surely, Fortnite has become sillier ever since. Before OG, you could find Exotic, Mythic, or Legendary weapons as ground loot, and these weapons were literally all over the place. Playing last season was like Willem Dafoe’s Looking Up meme; before you could even see the enemy, you’d have a Heavy Sniper round through your dome. Fun.

Yet in Fortnite OG, simplicity reigns supreme, and the game is so much better for it. It’s a true survival Battle Royale game; with a barren map, simple gameplay, and simple weapons with no unnecessary complex mechanics. It’s exactly as it should be. If you’re a Zero Build rookie who hates Fortnite OG and complains about dying all the time because there’s nowhere to get cover on the map, learn to use Utility. That’s it.
