Illinois ICU Nurse Begs People to Stop Riding E-Scooters, ‘One of My Coworkers Just Bought a Scooter That Goes 70mph… WHY???’

Who knew e-scooters could be so dangerous

There are many individuals on both sides of the argument that e-scooters are beneficial to major cities. Though they are a genuinely eco-friendly mode of transportation, there are also major safety concerns, especially when it comes to inexperienced riders traveling at high speeds. An ICE nurse in Illinois shares her thoughts on why she thinks we need to dial it back and take a closer look at e-scooters, because she believes they’re too dangerous for our roads.

I’m begging. Please. Put this on the news. Please listen to me. #icunurse #psa #sos #escooter #fyp

Chenedyy (@chenedyy on TikTok) starts off her video with an alarming, “My sister saw a dead body yesterday in Chicago.” She goes on to claim the reason was due to those “damn motorized scooters” everybody insists on riding everywhere. Chenedyy’s referring to the Lime electric scooter brand, which is a popular service offered in Chicago and other cities. The service allows you to unlock an e-scooter and ride it wherever you need to go, excluding sidewalks and designated exclusion zones.

Chenedyy gets her point across in a hysterical PSA where she says these scooters cause “literal death” and cause people to become “paralyzed” on many occasions. She shares a story about two sisters who were paralyzed after hitting a curb on e-scooters. Another story included a 45-year-old man who died of brain death after an accident with an e-scooter. She added there is “no reason” why people need to be going 20 miles per hour on the street on an e-scooter. At that point, you’re asking for trouble.

Chenedyy has a point, though. Aside from those who wear helmets, you don’t have much in the way of protection, especially when vehicles are involved. Her source? Chenedyy shares, “I have seen it firsthand working as a trauma ICU nurse, trust me. I have seen it. I am not lying to you.” To make a point, she shares her own experience chipping her tooth on an e-scooter.

Many people in the comments agreed e-scooters are incredibly dangerous and warned against their usage as well. One commenter shared, “I have a plate and 5 screws in my foot because of an e-scooter. Only been on 1 time.” Another girl shared from personal experience, “I’m a server. My regular’s brother hit a crack and flew off at 50mph and died instantly” and added, “She watched him die.” Others shared the way people utilize these scooters, like riding one together or driving on the highway.

Others disagreed, saying you can “die literally doing ANYTHING.” Sure, you can die from gravity but you wouldn’t step out your two-story window, would you? Another person made a fantastic point by adding in, “Year 30 of me begging cities to invest into more accessibly, reliable, and SAFE public transportation.” But, you see, then a city would actually have to, you know, spend money on infrastructure. On a global scale, our public transit options leave a lot to be desired and maybe it’s time we start demanding change so lives can be saved (as well as money for the average citizen who needs to get from point A to point B).
