Insomniac’s Canceled, Online-Focused Spider-Man Game Has Leaked

Looks like we’ll have to continue swinging alone.

Insomniac Games was struck with an enormous leak a few months ago that revealed a lot of what the studio has been working on and has planned for the future. One of those leaked titles was a new Spidey game based in the Spider-Man universe called Spider-Man: The Great Web. It was meant to be an online-focused game, and now after yet another leak, we have our first look at the unannounced title.

Other leaks included a pre-release trailer of the upcoming Wolverine game that showed the character and some of the game’s mechanics in action, and a Venom-focused game coming out in 2025. Other than that, even plans near the year 2030 were also revealed to include some sort of an X-Men game as well. Among all these leaks, Spider-Man: The Great Web didn’t get much attention until now, and it seems the game was further along in terms of development than we could have imagined.

Before you get too excited and rally up a Spider-Squad, know that, even at the time of the initial leaks, it was already suspected to have been canceled. And this leak just confirms that fact. At first, everyone thought it just got to the conceptual stage and was canned from there. But the trailer shows a lot of gameplay with some interesting new Spider-Faces like Spider-Gwen. The video was posted on X / Twitter by SaiyanDeezy, and can still be found using a simple search using the name Spider-Man: The Great Web.

The entirety of the leaked gameplay trailer for Spider-Man: The Great Web is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, the voice actor for Peter Parker, and shows some new Spider-People along with some familiar villains. Bad guys like Mysterio, Doc Ock, Sandman, Electro, and more got some screen time during the short trailer.

The gameplay of Spider-Man: The Great Web looks practically identical to all of Insomniac’s Spidey games from the past, just with more characters on screen. The trailer shows the previously mentioned Gwen, Silk, and Miguel, along with Peter Parker and Miles Morales. It’s unfortunate for some fans that the game will likely never see the light of day. But at the very least, Insomniac will now be able to gauge interest in a future live-service online-focused project similar to the leaked Spider-Man: The Great Web.
