The new Final Fantasy 16 takes place in Valisthea. This beautiful world is dying from Blight, which captures more and more land each day. These territories no longer have aether from Mothercrystals, meaning magic does not work. Moreover, no plants or animals can exist on the contaminated land. This world contains several different regions, but it is not an open-world game.

As a result of this, nations begin to fight for the remaining Mothercrystals. And you have to help Clive survive and take revenge in this cruel world. To do this, you will have to visit a variety of cities and locations in Valisthea. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how big Square Enix has made the game world in Final Fantasy 16.

So, the developers have repeatedly stated that their new title will focus on the plot. Therefore, at first glance, it may seem that the game, like the world, is linear. But in reality, this is not entirely true.

Final Fantasy 16 contains several large zones to explore. You will not be able to travel around the world wherever you want. Instead, you can choose a location on the world map and go there. As you progress through the story, you will open new locations and activate way stones in them for fast travel.

However, almost all locations are linear, and you will return to them just to complete the side quests. But it is worth noting that such quests will not distract you from the main plot. In addition, they will show you the lives of regular people and help you learn more about Valisthea. This type of open world will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the adventures of Clive and his friends and get a unique gaming experience.

That’s all you need to know about the open world in Final Fantasy 16. You will have a long adventure during which you will visit different parts of the world. Therefore, even despite the linearity of locations, the world will seem huge to you.

Final Fantasy 16 is available on PlayStation 5.
