Janet Jackson is throwing her full weight behind Kim Kardashian‘s latest decision. The singer is currently on her Together Again tour, but the SKIMS founder stole the spotlight. Kim showed up to the event wearing an old look from Jackson’s career. Unfortunately, the gesture didn’t sit well with fans, who previously shamed Kim for exploiting historical fashion pieces for her personal look.

The outfit in question was the exact ensemble that Jackson wore in the music video of her 1993 hit If. It is a black denim crop top that mimics the shape of a corset. The archival piece features white zigzag patterns on the left and right sides of the chest. Kim purchased the costume at an auction in 2021. She paid a whopping $25,000 for the item at a Julien’s Auctions event celebrating Jackson’s 55th birthday, per Harper’s Baazar.

The KUWTK alum paired the vintage item with a pair of black flared suede pants with fringes on the side. Kim flaunted her look in an Instagram Story post. She completed the outfit with a pair of super-pointy black boots while accessorizing with large hoop earrings and a statement bonelike choker. “Can you guys tell where I’m going tonight? I bet you’ll never guess,” the 43-year-old said in the video. Kim attended the Palm Springs show with her mother, Kris Jenner, sister Khloé Kardashian and some friends.

Fans Are Fed Up Of Kim, But Janet Jackson ‘Loves It’

As expected, Kim’s outfit immediately made rounds on the internet, and fans were appalled. Given her last stint with Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ dress, fans weren’t gentle with their words. “Me, I am disgusted,” ranted one fan while another penned, “She and Drake irritate me so much. buying historical pieces just for the kick of it UGH!” A third comment read, “Why can’t she be like Debbie Reynolds and work towards preservation not just her ability to wear them and own them?” This fourth fan lamented:

“I know Janet auctioned it off, but it belongs in a museum. What’s with Kim and wearing the iconic clothing of other women? First Marilyn and now Janet…it’s a little weird to me.”

Despite the backlash, Jackson didn’t seem to mind Kim wearing her former look. She shared a sweet message to the mother-of-four via her Instagram Story, writing, “Thank you so much @kimkardashian! 💖💖. I hope ‘If’ gives you as much pleasure as it did me 😘😘😘.” It is clear Janet Jackson has given the final word.
