On Thursday evening, Vice President JD Vance was at the receiving end of citizens’ displeasure with the new administration.
The 40-year-old politician visited the Kennedy Centre to watch Leonidas Kavakos’s performance of Stravinsky’s Petrusha. However, the lovely evening quickly turned cold for the Vice President. Instead of earning a warm reception from the crowd, Vance was met with loud boos. Footage shared on Reddit captured the chilly reception that Vance received. The statesman, dressed in a black suit, could be seen taking his balcony seat at the theatre. Accompanying him were his wife, Usha Vance, and his aides. Immediately he sat, one man in the audience could be heard shouting, “Boo,” while another woman said, “Oh F–k.”
Soon enough, the audience noticed the politician’s presence, and a chorus of boos filled the theatre, mocking him. As the jeers echoed, the camera zoomed in to show Vance sipping a drink and smiling. He even waved at the audience and whispered something inaudible to his wife.
The reaction to Vance’s attendance at the Kennedy Centre comes after President Donald Trump took over ownership of the center. On February 7, Trump announced the takeover: “At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center great in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN.” The 78-year-old appointed himself the new chairman of the center’s board of trustees.
Days after releasing the statement, the Republican revealed his plans for the entertainment center, saying:
“I want to make sure it runs properly. We don’t need woke people at the center.”
Citizens Want ‘Rotten Fruit’ Thrown At JD Vance
The video of the crowd booing the vice president soon went viral, attracting comments from Internet viewers who thought the leader deserved the treatment.
One Redditor commended the jesters, writing, “Keep this up every f*cking day. It may not change anything, but it feels good to see it.”
Another netizen noted that the reactions may make Vance feel “guilty.” However, a third user countered, “Not guilt, but at the very least hopefully it’s a blow to his inflated ego and makes him feel shitty. Probably thought people would be cheering him.”
This Internet user added, “My only note is they should have booed harder and thrown rotten fruit.”
When one Redditor criticized the vice president for smiling, another commented that the smile was only a mask to hide his shame. The person penned, “He’s trying to smile because inside he feels embarrassed and probably doesn’t want to go red in the face/get teary-eyed Imao. What a loser.”
With the overwhelming budget cuts and rapid changes across the government, Trump and Vance aren’t the country’s favorite people.
