Marvel is giving more details about the recently announced Phoenix relaunch series. The new X-title is part of this summer’s From the Ashes relaunch event that completely changes the current mutant landscape. It follows the announcement of three “main” X-titles that will guide readers through this new era: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Exceptional X-Men. Phoenix follows Jean Grey as she once again adopts the moniker of the cosmic entity and takes to the stars to find her destiny. The solo series comes from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Alessandro Miracolo.

The end of the Krakoan Era is currently taking place in the pages of Rise of the Powers of X and X-Men: Forever. In the midst of this, Jean Grey is once again in the White Hot Room. This home of the Phoenix Force sits beyond space and time and is where Jean and the entity bond. Now, a new metamorphosis takes place and Jean Grey emerges in a new costume and takes to the cosmos as the Phoenix once again.

Phoenix takes Jean Grey on a new journey throughout space. An urgent S.O.S. from Nova takes the Phoenix to the edge of a black hole. Here, hundreds of lives are hanging in the balance and Jean must work to save them. However, no matter what Jean does or does not do will bring darkness to the universe and haunt Jean forever.

Series writer Stephanie Phillips shares that the fun of tackling Jean Grey and Phoenix is the dichotomy of the character. While Jean is imbued with such a powerful cosmic force, that comes with the morals and empathy of Jean’s humanity. It is a constant dance between humanity and complete power. That dance is what Phoenix aims to explore and to see how the cosmic force and Jean Grey can coexist. This new series comes as part of three titles announced as part of the relaunch. Phoenix joins X-Force and NYX as upcoming titles to usher in a new age of mutants.

Phoenix #1 is out on 07/17
