Jimmy Kimmel continues to take digs at Donald Trump. However, this time, Kimmel extends his ridicule to the Left, holding them responsible for Trump’s new regime. According to the Jimmy Kimmel Live host, Liberals who police comedians are the reason the Republican is in office.
Kimmel laid out his opinion in a recent interview where he explored the link between politics and comedy. He explained that his views on comedy have changed with time, and he is now conscious of his jokes. The comedian confessed to Rolling Stone, “I won’t make a joke that I wouldn’t make if a person of that color or persuasion was in the room.”
However, the 57-year-old TV host couldn’t help but get political, saying he believes the hate of comedians is unnecessary and was initially inspired by the Left. “I think a lot of the outrage is completely manufactured,” Kimmel said, “And it’s like a lot of these people who are angry are not really angry.”
He continued, “I think these liberals who’ve done such a good job of viciously attacking comedians are a big part of the reason why Trump is the president right now.”
The comedian illustrated what he meant by describing that people who don’t laugh at jokes that everyone finds funny give off a bad feeling. He added, “There’s no black and white when it comes to comedy. There’s no line. The line is different for every person. I don’t think anyone should be canceled.”
Jimmy Kimmel Opens Up About Why He Often Criticizes Donald Trump
Further into the interview, the ABC host discussed why the president has become his focus. “I think most comedians have a strong sense of justice, and he violates that so frequently,” he disclosed. “I know we should be hardened by it now, but I’m not. It’s shocking to me; it seems like a comic-book villain.”
When asked how he felt when the president requested ABC to fire him, Kimmel said he enjoyed getting under the president’s skin.
“I think it’s funny. I like it when he admits I’m bothering him. Here at the show, where we put a lot of work into lampooning him, for him to appreciate our work is one of the few things he does that I appreciate. If he ignored us, it wouldn’t be as much fun.”
Kimmel’s interview with Rolling Stone is no surprise, as he has always disliked the president. When Trump won the November 2024 election, the comedian didn’t hesitate to blast him, likening him to an emperor from Star Wars.
