Everyone has a stinker in their filmography, and some will admit it. Josh Brolin has once again talked about how much he hated his movie Jonah Hex, a live-action adaptation of the DC comic character. The Dune: Part Two star has said he “won’t ever stop sh—ing” on his first comic book project because the blockbuster “was a sh—y f—ing movie!”

Jonah Hex was directed by Jimmy Hayward, who the actor previously blamed for the film’s quality and since has taken it back. Despite its dazzling cast of Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender, John Gallagher Jr., Michael Shannon, Will Arnett, Wes Bently, and John Malkovich, it was a disaster. The $47 million budgeted film grossed $11 million worldwide. It received 12% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critic score and 20% from the audience score.

Despite His DC Comic Book Movie Was Terrible, Josh Brolin Reconciled With the Jonah Hex Director

In an interview with GQ, the actor reflected on making the 2010 movie. He revealed that he and the director got in touch after years of not talking. The director “apologized for his part in the mess.” During the talk, he revealed to the actor that he currently has bone cancer, requiring some facial reconstructive surgery. It gave the actor a different perspective, as he had previously blamed the outcome of their film on the director.

It reminded me [that] you can’t just keep sh—ing on somebody. I don’t know what the fuck’s going on in his life. I mean, total facial reconstruction, the whole thing.

Last year, Josh Brolin blamed the filmmaker, who previously was only experienced being an animator for Pixar. He told Variety that he had two weeks to find someone to helm the project. When landing on Hayward, “it didn’t feel right.” Those feelings were felt because Hayward “didn’t have the experience” and “didn’t treat it like I would imagine somebody would want to treat it.”

The actor has made great strides in the last 14 years since the disastrous Jonah Hex. He currently is promoting Dune: Part Two, which hit theaters on March 1.
