News has been sparse in regards to the television adaptation of fan favorite movie and comic series Judge Dredd ever since it was announced last May. Recently, Jason Kingsley revealed that Judge Dredd: Mega City One would likely not be released anytime soon.

The CEO of Rebellion Developments, Kingsley spoke about to SFX magazine regarding the upcoming project.

“My best guess is that it’s at least two years away. But we’re so early in the process that things could happen a bit faster, or much more slowly.”

Kingsley has said that heโ€™s excited at the prospect of being able to take his time with Judge Dredd: Mega City One, hoping to use long-form storytelling to show off Mega-City One and its inhabitants. Rebellion Developments work on the 2012 film Dredd revealed to the CEO that, “Trying to fit all of that into a two-hour movie is very hard.”

Regarding that Long-form plot, he stated that the storytelling will feature a combination of dark fantasy elements, mixed between light-hearted and insanely macabre, weaving through the possible 400 million stories to tell of the inhabitants of Mega City One.

While Mega City has always been a fascinating setting, many are still waiting for the most important news regarding the series, who will be cast as Judge Dredd. Ever since the announcement, fans have clamored for Karl Urban to reprise his 2012 movie role, as he encapsulated Dreddโ€™s attitude and demeanor perfectly.

Many sources have stated that the actor has been in contact with the studio about possibly playing the character again. Nothing concrete has been confirmed though, as the combination of Urban’s busy schedule and the fact that Judge Dredd: Mega City One is still in the planning stages of development mean that they simply donโ€™t know at this point.

Either way, the promise of more Judge Dredd content is very exciting and we canโ€™t wait to see it upon its release. For more updates on Judge Dredd: Mega City One be sure to stay tuned to the site, as well as other info on all of your other Nerdy News and Needs!
