Katy Perry is staying strong. The “Woman’s World” singer shared a lengthy message on Instagram addressing the backlash regarding her Lifetimes tour. Although she admitted feeling like “a human piñata” right now, Perry reassured fans she wouldn’t let the hate get to her.
Addressing the Lifetimes Tour Drama
Katy Perry began her message by telling fans she’s “grateful” for their continuous support all these years. She said their love never goes unnoticed, and it’s thanks to them that she feels confident enough to be her most authentic self. “We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together,” she wrote. “I love you guys and have grown up together with you.”
After sharing her excitement for the rest of her Lifetimes concerts, the pop star addressed the elephant in the room: the backlash regarding her first shows in Mexico City. She said she’s aware her tour kickoff didn’t get the best response on social media. Since there have been so many negative headlines about her lately, she wanted to reassure everyone that she’s doing “ok.”
Katy Perry credited her positive attitude to therapy. She said she’s done a lot of “work” to reach a point in her life where she can ignore the noise online. While people may be treating her like “a human piñata,” Perry is trying not to take anything too personally. “I know so many people are hurting in so many ways,” she said. “The internet is very much so a dumping ground for the unhinged and unhealed.”
Katy Perry Won’t Let the Haters Win
Instead of getting consumed by the negativity, Perry said she’ll be focusing on what really matters, and that’s her fans. The star is determined to show her KatyCats as much love on tour as they do for her. From reading their signs and locking eyes with them, Perry promised to find ways to connect with them at each concert.
Although she admitted she’ll never be “perfect” and will sometimes “fall,” Katy Perry said she’ll use her mistakes as motivation to get better. “Somehow through my battered and bruised adventure, I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,” she finished.
Perry’s Instagram message was in response to a viral fan project that her KatyCats worked together to bring to life. The project involved obtaining a Times Square billboard and putting a message on it congratulating Perry on her Lifetimes tour.
Why Are People Mad At Her Anyway?
Katy Perry’s Lifetimes tour kicked off with three concerts in Mexico City last week. After fans shared clips of her shows online, the American Idol star received criticism for her lackluster choreography. Many thought her moves were too robotic, sparking speculation that she didn’t rehearse enough. People also hated on her tour’s space theme following the controversy surrounding her Blue Origin flight.
Perry was one of the six women who embarked on a trip to space on April 14. She and the rest of the crew considered the mission to be monumental. However, others called it a waste of money.
Katy Perry has had a rough few weeks, but that won’t stop her from enjoying her Lifetimes tour. The trek, which will consist of 84 concerts, will conclude in December.
