LeBron James has been eliminated from the 2025 NBA playoffs in the first round. After a grueling five-game series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LBJ and his Los Angeles Lakers are heading to the offseason with a lot of questions. Arguably, the most important question regards James himself. Will LeBron return next season, and if so, how much longer can he play at a high level? However, James is keeping the entire sports world guessing whether or not he is ready to hang up the jersey for good.
LeBron James is 40 years old and not getting any younger. Although despite his age, James has had quite the season. A few triple-doubles, some monster dunks, and even some game-winners. The King looks as though he has not lost a step. However, James has been at least slightly open about how much longer he will be in the NBA. LeBron never comes outright and just says a number, though. All the fans know is that the end is definitely near. However, James took some time after getting eliminated in five games to recall a special moment. He got to play alongside his son in a National Basketball Association game. “Number one for sure,” says LeBron regarding his top career accomplishments. According to USA Today, James is extremely happy that he got to share that moment with his firstborn son.
LeBron James Recalls the Most Amazing Moment of His Career
“Number one for sure,’’ LeBron James said after the Lakers’ 103-96 loss. “That’s easy. That’s not even close. To be able to play the game that I love and to be able to be along with my son this whole year has been one of the most gratifying, satisfying journeys I’ve ever been on.”
Although James seems happy reminiscing about his accomplishments, many Lakers fans seem extremely unhappy with the outcome of the season. The Los Angeles Lakers are a legendary franchise, and on top of that, they made the biggest trade in recent memory this season. Getting Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks for an aging Anthony Davis is a steal. It was widely believed that this Lakers team was going to make the Western Conference finals. Now, James is most likely seriously considering retirement.
The groundwork has been laid. LeBron James has been dropping hints that the end of his NBA career is coming for a few years now. LBJ has stated that he will know when it is time to call it quits. When James no longer has the motivation to get into the gym before anyone else, or take the shootaround seriously. James continued by saying that is when he will know it’s time.
The NBA is a young man’s game, and the future of the league seems to be in very capable hands. Young stars like Luka Doncic, SGA, and Victor Wembanyama all have the talent to keep the game alive and well. LeBron James has nothing left to prove. He delivered on his promise to bring Cleveland a championship, he is an MVP, and he played on the same team as his son. One of the most legendary basketball careers of all time is almost over, and we have all truly witnessed greatness.
