LEGO games from Traveller’s Tale are known as the go-to titles for family-friendly multiplayer. But does its latest title, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, features co-op? And if it does, how can you play with a friend or family member? Does it have online functionality? Continue reading and find out all the answers below.

How To Play Co-op Splitscreen

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - How To Play Co-op

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga supports a “drop-in-drop-out” local co-op multiplayer system, with a maximum amount of two players playing simultaneously. While Player 1 is playing, the other person simply needs to plug in a second controller and press a button to join in on the fun instantly. When Player 1 or Player 2 want to take a break, they can then go to the pause menu and drop out of the game. One player still playing can continue playing alone seamlessly.

However, if you’re looking to play with a friend or family members across countries or continents, there’s bad news. Traveller’s Tale has said that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is not going to support an online co-op multiplayer feature. While some players are expecting the British studio to implement the online co-op functionality after launch through an update or patch, it seems the developers themselves aren’t quite sure they can do it.

On Twitter, freelance reporter Jack Yarwood (who has covered the game’s shaky development) stated that the work on online functionality caused internal controversy and was cut due to causing “problems elsewhere in the development.” The part of the team was also suspected of only working on it because they want to prove the viability of their current NTT engine for future titles instead of “directly contributing” to the development of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Fortunately, PC players have an option. By using either Steam Remote Play Together or Parsec, you can share your screen as well as second player input over the internet, letting both you and your friend play split-screen online.
