Fans are bashing the NFL after giving in to Lil Wayne’s cries about the Super Bowl.

The New Orleans native has been in the headlines for quite some time now after suffering a meltdown over not being asked to headline the Super Bowl halftime show. However, it would appear the National Football League heard the rapper’s cry. NFL Media on X, formerly Twitter, shared a special talent announcement on November 11, 2024. “Grammy Award winner @LilTunechi will join NFL Game Day Morning every Sunday for the rest of the season,” they wrote.

The “Lollipop” performer will officially take the stage beginning Sunday, November 17. He’s set to appear alongside Rich Eisen, Kurt Warner, Steve Mariucci, and Gerald McCoy. Based on the league’s official announcement, they seem hyped about the moment. However, not every football fan is excited about the news.

NFL Fans Are Upset with Lil Wayne’s ‘Participation Trophy’

After the NFL announced that Lil Wayne had earned a regular spot on Game Day, many took to social media to express their negative feelings. One user replied immediately, slamming the rapper for being a “cry baby ass” celebrity, while another said they were “disgusted” by the league’s move. A popular social media account also weighed in on the news, saying the NFL only awarded Lil Wayne for being a sore loser. “The NFL gave Lil Wayne a participation trophy for all the crying he did.”

Weezy’s new performance spot arrives several weeks after the rapper’s meltdown online. Once he learned Kendrick Lamar had been chosen to headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, he expressed his disappointment in a video online. “That hurt. It hurt a lot,” he said. “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. And for automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt. It hurt a whole lot.”

In a separate moment during the Lil Weezyana Fest 2024, the popular artist called the league out again. “It was ripped away from me,” he said. “But this mothaf*cking moment right here? They can’t take that, man.”

Why Is Kendrick Leading the Super Bowl Half-Time Show?

Some people, including Lil Wayne, are still confused as to why Kendrick Lamar is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans. But the answer is quite simple, actually. Kendrick, 37, had a massive year. His rap single, “Not Like Us,” which was a diss track aimed at Canadian rapper Drake, took over the pop culture zeitgeist. It spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and led to a worldwide takeover. The song was so popular that celebrities, including LeBron James, DeMar DeRozan, and Taraji P. Henson, showed the Compton-raised rapper some love.

Two months ago, K Dot announced his performance with a short video shared on his YouTube. The performer stood in front of the American flag with a passing machine, just launching footballs. He also recited a few lines, one of which got a few people talking.

“You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship,” he said. “No round twos.”

The assumption is that he’s taking another shot at Drake after the latter suggested there would be a second phase of diss tracks coming his way. However, nobody seemed phased. In fact, one user wrote on Reddit that the music industry has “been waiting for Drake to take a hit.”

So, has that time finally come? We’ll know after the audience’s reaction to Lamar’s highly anticipated set in February 2025.
