Lords of the Fallen: How to Beat the Congregator of Flesh

Are you sure you want to cross that bridge?

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

We all know Soulslike games can be scary and hide one or two jumpscares in some corners, and, fortunately or unfortunately for the faint of heart, Hexworks’ latest game is no exception. After beating one of the game’s first bosses, you’ll encounter a beautiful clearing on your way to the Forsaken Fen. Sadly, that moment of respite will be cut short due to one of the worst-built bridges. Assuming you fell into the hole we’re talking about, you’ll encounter the Congregator of Flesh in Lords of the Fallen, and as always, we’ve prepared a guide to help you defeat it.

After finally getting a moment to catch your breath and take in the sights, the game will slap you in the face with a poorly built bridge that’ll lead you to the Congregator of Flesh’s arena. This boss seems daunting and imposing, but thankfully, it isn’t too challenging. The first time you find it, you’ll be alone, but if you die and return to the closest vestige, you’ll get the opportunity to summon an NPC to help you. But before we delve into specifics, let’s break down its moveset.

  • First Phase
    • Sweep Attack: The boss will perform a long sweeping attack with its longest arm.
    • Body Slam: The boss will slam its body on one of its sides, dealing great damage.
    • Jump Attack: The boss growls and, after a few seconds, jumps, slamming the ground and dealing a lot of damage.
    • Poison Clouds: Similar to the jump attack, the boss will perform a small hop and spawn several poison clouds around it.
    • Wave Attack: The boss charges an attack with its long arm and hurls a wave of sludge at the player.
  • Second Phase
    • Slam Combo: The boss quickly attacks 2 to 3 times with its long arm.
    • Charge Attack: The boss charges at you, and if it hits, it’ll grab you, dealing a lot of damage and possibly killing you.

Strategy

Here, we don’t think the boss was too difficult, but it still has some annoying moves you need to memorize if you want to get out alive. The easiest way to defeat the Congregator of Flesh is by dying the first time, returning to the surface, calling for an NPC to help, preferably Pieta, and letting her tank the boss. However, if you want to go solo, do this:

  1. Stick to the boss’s right side at all times.
  2. Hit its right leg as much as possible; that’s the weak spot.
  3. When the poison clouds appear, run away and switch to ranged weapons or spells.
  4. Return to melee range when the clouds disperse.
  5. If possible, add fire damage to your weapons.
  6. A shield isn’t helpful here, so feel free to try dual-wielding. This does more damage and applies status effects faster.

We think the Congregator is a visually impressive fight that again helps show the players some of the game’s mechanics. This is the first approach to a proper fight with poison effects, which serves to prepare all Crusaders for what’s coming. However, it is a bit easy, and despite the design, it lacks the challenge we were expecting.

Now that you know how to beat the Congregator of Flesh in Lords of the Fallen don’t be afraid to cross that bridge. It’s a visually impressive fight, and beating it has some amazing rewards you can get, especially if you’re using magic.
