It was just after sunrise in San Pedro, Los Angeles, on Friday, August 8, 2025, when Unión del Barrio member Amanda Trebach was on her regular morning patrol outside the Terminal Island staging area, keeping an eye on a place that’s sparked protests for years.

Witnesses say at least six masked men swarmed her without warning. No uniforms. No badges. No explanation. Within seconds, they had her by the arms, dragging her toward an unmarked vehicle as stunned bystanders yelled in disbelief. One woman’s voice shouted: “That’s kidnapping!”

Amanda’s name carries more weight than a simple police record. She’s a familiar face to the community, known for her relentless activism with Unión del Barrio, a revolutionary political group founded in 1981. The organization fights for the rights and self-determination of “la raza” Chicano, Mexicano, and Latin American communities and isn’t afraid to stand toe-to-toe with those in power.

“She’s always here for people,” one witness said. “And this is how they repay her? By throwing her in a van like she’s a criminal?”

By the time the morning was over, videos of the incident were everywhere. Clips show Amanda struggling as the masked figures haul her away, voices in the background demanding answers. Social media lit up with anger, calling the men “masked kidnappers” and accusing them of trying to silence a powerful voice for justice.

A Community That Won’t Back Down

The Terminal Island in the Los Angeles staging area has been a hotbed of tension for years, with activists like Amanda monitoring what they claim are human rights violations and government overreach. Now, her sudden arrest has only strengthened their resolve.

“We will not be intimidated,” Unión del Barrio said in a fiery statement. “The struggle for liberation will continue.”

Amanda’s current whereabouts and who exactly took her remain a mystery. But one thing is sure is that her community isn’t letting this go without a fight.
