Sometimes you might hit the jackpot when you are shopping. These moments might be rare so it’s better to take advantage of them when you get the chance. This is what a Florida woman did when she saw a black dress listed at Aritzia priced at just one cent. Her sister was the one who informed her of the price, and to the woman, this was an “insane deal.” Just like any person would do, she decided to buy this one-cent dress. She bought two, as one was small and the other was extra small. The customer makes it clear that it’s not her fault that the company put the wrong price. Plus, she paid the shipping fee, and her order was confirmed. “It still went through and that’s their fault,” she says about the purchase.
The deal still went through, and the Florida woman actually received the extra small one while she kept waiting for the other size. Her luck ran out, though, because Aritzia noticed the mistake. When the rest of her order wasn’t delivered, she called the company to complain. They then proceeded to tell her that they won’t send it because of the price mistake. It’s a mistake on their end, and plus, she still paid the price that was listed for it. It doesn’t stop at that. The company then kept sending her emails telling her to return the dress she received. Mind you, she never filled a request to return the dress so they were spamming her.
When the customer tried to contact customer service, they were rude. The company ended up reaching out to her, apologizing for how she was treated. They also offered her a $100 gift card, which the Florida woman plans to accept. My only problem is that they claimed that the return emails were automated. How were they automated if she never sent a request to return the dress?
People Reacting to the Florida Woman’s Purchase
I thought that people would think the Florida woman was wrong about buying the one-cent dress, but they actually sided with her. Several people even believed that Aritzia shouldn’t have asked her to return the dress she received. “Them cancelling the order bc they caught it, fine. Them asking you to return the one they didn’t catch is INSANE,” one woman wrote. Another woman also said, “They have a right to CANCEL but I ain’t returning SHIT.” There was one person who even used Aritzia’s policy against them. “According to Aritzia’s own policy, sale items are not eligible for return. If customers are expected to adhere to this policy the same should apply to the company,” they wrote. Someone else believed that the company should even return the other cent, as they said, “All I’m hearing is Aritzia owes you 1 cent.”
Other people mentioned some examples that show that the Florida woman did nothing wrong. “There’s a guy who bought Cartier earrings from their website for $14 instead of $14,000. They tried to cancel the order due to the error but he sued and won” one person wrote. Another person also mentioned the law, as they said, “You’re legally allowed to the lowest advertised price no matter if it’s a mistake.” Someone else wrote, “There are actually laws on ‘false advertising’ and they have to honor it.” There was one TikTok user who shared their own experience by saying, “Dyson accidentally sent me an extra vacuum and never asked for it back… there’s no reason for them to harass you that’s WILD.” At least they gave her a gift card.
