As the conversation veered into more heated terrains, Carney quickly dismissed Trump’s continuous calls to make Canada the 51st state, without mincing words.
Canada’s PM Defies Trump’s Pressure to Annex Country
During their conversations, Trump hinted that the union between both nations would be a “wonderful marriage,” should Carney cave in. The Prime Minister bluntly noted that “there are some places that are never for sale.“ The Canadian leader then stressed that his country, Canada, is one of them. He fired,
“Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign in the last several months, it’s not for sale, it won’t be for sale, ever.”
In response to Mark Carney’s blunt declaration at the White House’s Oval Office, Donald Trump retorted, “Never say never.” The two leaders also discussed the Trump administration’s stance on trade deals. The president doubled down on his claims that the United States could do without trade deals from other nations, saying the nations in question wanted a piece of the US market, not the other way around.
