Those who were hoping to get a handle on Marvel’s Avengers before its release next Spring are finally getting their wish. Square Enix has brought the title to Gamescom 2019 and isn’t holding much back.

Members of the media are getting their hands on the game at the convention. The company also released the most gameplay anyone has seen yet early Tuesday morning. Square has released the full 18-minute prologue to Marvel’s Avengers. Known as A-Day, this opening scene is used to show players how to play with each of the main heroes.

Alongside the video, Square also issued a press release underlining the importance of this sequence to the rest of the game:

Marvelโ€™s Avengersย begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco โ€” including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earthโ€™s Mightiest Heroes.

There’s been a massive amount of buzz around this game since it was first rumored to be coming to E3. Of course, once it was unveiled, the buzz seemed to be uniformly negative.

Since that first reveal, Marvel’s Avengers‘ developers have been working to turn the vibes around. One of the biggest complaints has been a lack of access. A close second has been complaints about a lack of gameplay footage.

It appears Square has decided Gamescom 2019 is the place to make the turnaround. So far, so good on that front.

Settle in and check out the 18-minute video above and then let us know what you think in the comments below. Marvel’s Avengers is due for release on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on May 15, 2020.
