Runaways, a Marvel Comics series that was originally helmed by well-respected writer  Brain K. Vaughn, will be getting a revival. If you’re unfamiliar with the original run of the comic, it’s about a group of kids who accidentally discover that all of their parents are members of the Pride, a criminal organization made up of mobsters, wizards, and time-traveling baddies. They’re not so high-profile as some of the stars of the Marvel Universe, like the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Avengers, but that might be an advantage in a comic world flooded with the same characters. The Runaways will be making their comeback this September.

Even though the Marvel films have been knocking it out of the park lately, the comics have been trailing behind some other publishers. Runaways is something that really looks to be interesting though, especially with Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka heading up the revival. I’m not sure whether they can recreate the magic that Brian K. Vaughn is using to conjuring, but it sounds like the new team has some interesting story arcs brewing for Runaways.

The Runaways are down on their luck at the beginning of this story,” said series writer Rainbow Rowell. “I mean, a fair number of them are missing or dead… And the ones who are still standing feel lost. After their parents died in the original series, all they had was each other. What do they have now? Who are they on their own? This story brings the gang back together, but – in true RUNAWAYS fashion – probably not the way you’d expect.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been excited about any comics from Marvel, or DC for that matter, but I’m definitely all in for the Runaways. The idea of a bunch of lesser-known characters having a good romp in the Marvel Universe sounds good to me.
