Being a parent is tough. Not only are you raising an entire human being to be a good person, but you also need to cater to their emotional needs. One mother in Maryland decided that one of the best ways she could cater to her daughter’s emotional needs was by sending her damaged American Girl doll to the ‘hospital’ to be repaired. However, when she and her daughter opened the package where their Molly McIntire doll was delivered, they were met with quite the surprise.
The above video showcases influencer Laney Sites as she opens up a delivery from American Girl. Inside the package is a Molly McIntire doll that she had sent in for repairs, which the company calls the ‘hospital.’ However, when the two opened the box, they were met with a Molly that had a few changes, namely, a completely different haircut. To be fair, the doll looks to be in rough shape already, hence the fact that she was at the hospital, but her hair looks as though a toddler cut it. In fact, one commenter said, “I want to see Molly before she went to the hospital.” I kind of want to as well.
In a follow-up video, Sites goes over that the doll had originally belonged to her as a child before she passed it down to her daughter. Because it already had such a deep history, she remembered that the doll’s feet had marker stains from her brothers. When she checked the doll’s feet, she found the exact same marks, signifying that the doll was indeed hers. So, what happened? According to that video’s comments, “Oh honey. They replace the heads with new heads if you ask them to fix the head.”
Fortunately, Sites or her daughter seems to be too worried about the doll’s head being different, especially since the swap was likely required, considering the damage. I will admit that it isn’t very cool of American Girl to do something like that without notifying the customer. What if there was something about the doll’s head that really meant something to the customer?
