Mass Effect Legendary Edition has finally been released, now available through PC, PS4, and Xbox One systems. Finally, players can return to the role of Commander Shepard and work to save the galaxy from a threat possibly returning after 50,000 years. For some players though, there have been some issues such as crashing while using a wireless headset, for example. One of the bigger issues as of recent though is through the game being a black screen rather than the actual game itself. If you’re running into the issue, no need to worry. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly how you can correct black screen issues on the PC version of Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

How to Fix Black Screen Issues on Mass Effect Legendary Edition

There are four different solutions you can try, with the last one very much acting as a last resort:

Option 1: Switch Out of the Game, Then Switch Back in

Sometimes, the game can bug out and register your primary app as something other than Mass Effect Legendary Edition. If you’re running into this issue, it can be as simple as pressing Alt and Tab simultaneously, then pressing the buttons again. It’s unlikely, but this could immediately solve your woes.

Option 2: Switch to Windowed Mode, Then Switch Back to Fullscreen

The issue could pertain to the game being Fullscreen, and just opening incorrectly. To fix this, you’ll want to press Alt and Enter simultaneously on your keyboard to enter Windowed Mode. Then, simply press the two buttons again to return to Fullscreen.

Option 3: Update Your Graphics Drivers

Your graphics drivers may be severely out of date, preventing the game from running properly. To do this, you’ll want to identify your graphics card (often shown in the Task Manager’s Performance tab if on Windows 10, or through third-party software), then head to the manufacturer’s website and update the drivers through there. Be sure to contact the manufacturer’s support team if you’re having trouble.

Option 4: Reinstall Mass Effect Legendary Edition

If all else fails, then reinstalling the game may be your only option. The game is rather large making the process annoying, but it may just be your only hope. You can uninstall and reinstall the game similar to how you do it with other titles on either Origin, EA Desktop App, or Steam.
