Road rage is never a good thing; unfortunately, it’s more than common that you might come across one. If you’re lucky, you’re only a spectator. Sadly for one Massachusetts cyclist, they weren’t so fortunate. They were recently attacked by a driver, who decided to open their door just as the cyclist was driving by, which sent him tumbling to the floor. The driver then proceeded to punch him in the face.
As it turns out, the cyclist was able to take revenge — if only small. After the yelling part was over, the guy opened the truck’s back door. It’s petty, but he deserved it. Following this, the cyclist went to a nearby park and started checking if his bicycle was damaged following the altercation. Thankfully for the guy, this person caught what happened and had evidence that might help him. The post got popular enough that it reached the cyclist himself who then offered his POV.
What Did the Massachusetts Cyclist Say?
In the comments, the victim offered his side of the story. He details that the other driver was insulting him for a couple of blocks before he intentionally opened the door to harm him. Unfortunately, he was injured and had a couple of bruises following the attack. To make matters worse, his bike was also harmed in the fight; it was left with several mechanical issues. Since people were already invested in the story, the cyclist added that he did contact the police. He said:
“I did contact police and gave them a license plate which I checked on the scene, but they tracked it down and told me it was not a valid number. So I’m not sure if I misremembered it or not, and would really appreciate it if you could forward me, or the Newton police, an original of this photo. I will certainly share this thread with them.”
In addition to this, he thanked Newton police officers who talked to him and offered their support. Since the license plate wasn’t a valid number, the witness’s video and pictures would help the cyclist know the right number and report it to the police. “Just so folks know, we connected and I sent him the video file to use as further evidence,” wrote the person who documented the attack.
People Reacting to the Attack on the Massachusetts Cyclist
The comments sympathized with the cyclist, especially after he mentioned that he was bruised. Someone believed that this attack could be classified as assault and battery. “Did you call the police and give them the unblurred license plate and photo? This sounds like assault and battery, and potentially other crimes, like assault with a dangerous weapon,” they wrote. Another person was quite annoyed that the first thought that came to the witness’ mind was to post the situation on Reddit. “witnesses assault, photographs perpetrator and his vehicle. Only just posts it on Reddit. Christ, you literally have the face and vehicle of the guy who did this, go to the cops, the Boston subreddit isn’t going to help you or that bicyclist,” they wrote.
Someone else shared the same sentiment as they asked, “…so you called the cops, right? After witnessing the assault and battery?” It also appears that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the area.
The experience of the cyclist encouraged another cyclist to share their story. “A few months back I was riding my bike in the bike lane responsibly, minding my own business, and a white pickup truck stopped abruptly next to me, almost causing an accident with the cars behind him, and proceeded to yell out the window ‘get a car you f**king loser!’ Like the level of anger at people just existing was insane, and the danger it caused to so many people was egregious. Though it seems I was lucky,” they wrote. Do truck drivers have some kind of beef with cyclists? Anyway, I hope the victim manages to catch the guy with the police’s help.
