A chaotic scene broke out in San Diego, California, when numerous teenagers found themselves in a rowdy brawl that led to several arrests. The incident took place at Belmont Park beach on Monday, May 26, at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time.
A Reddit video documented the unfortunate moment when at least thirty teenagers started exchanging loud words and throwing punches.
At first, it seemed the group of young people was focused on one girl, who wore a pair of light blue shorts and a white shirt. In the video, she can be seen being repeatedly dragged on the floor, tossed around, and hit while her shirt was halfway up her chest. However, eventually, the teens turned on each other, leading to a raucous disturbance.
Luckily, the group seemed to disperse a little when police officers stormed the scene. They were able to point out two girls who had been in the middle of the fight, and attempted to separate them. The girl with the blue shorts had to be physically restrained by an officer as she was livid and could be heard yelling at her opponent at the top of her lungs. “No!”
Another girl wearing a red shirt was captured talking to the officers and attempting to gain access to the second party who was being arrested, but she was blocked. She eventually gave up and walked away.
Soon enough, a loud siren broke out, and a police car pulled up to the scene. Although the initial brawl had died down, several teenagers were captured still milling around, waiting to see the end of the incident and recording on their phones. At least two suspects were seen being handcuffed, restrained, and taken into custody.
Social media users in the comment section had a field day dissecting the incident. One joked, “Finally, some youths without smartphones,” and another commented: “Ahh, NOW it’s Memorial Day in San Diego.”
A user commented, “This is why we can’t have anything nice at the beach,” and another added, “LOL these folks don’t care about Memorial Day.” One seemed to support the incident by commenting, “I love that the kids still fight here. Everybody gets to live. Back home, some of them kids would have been t-shirts. I do not miss that environment.”
Another user went on a long, sarcastic, and hilarious rant that started with, “This is such an outrage, how our community morals have fallen!” The user then pointed out that the teenagers were engaging in a brawl “before summer has officially started.” “Parking lot brawls are a time-honored tradition in San Diego, a time-honored SUMMER tradition.”
The user further added that people cannot fight in Belmont Park until summer when they are “religiously obligated to do so.”
So far, no information has been released regarding the arrests or the identities of the suspects in question.
