Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football 2019 is almost here. In anticipation of its September release, the potential NCAA Football replacement finally has an official gameplay trailer.

Released on Friday evening, the video is a follow up to several trailers unveiling the teams in the game. Built by a two-man development team, this new release also shows improvements made over the previous version of the title.

Maximum Football 2019 devs Canuck Play are in the second year of their series. While the first iteration scratched the itch of football fans who wanted to customize their teams, even the dev team might admit the game wasn’t up to NCAA Football or Madden 20 standards.

Realism is at the heart of the game for Maximum Football 2019. Canuck Play is walking the line between realism and abiding by the lack of a license. The video shows off the ability to take to the college gridiron. Players won’t be able to take on real college teams, though there are enough customization options for those willing to spend the time.

Graphic improvements get the game closer to what fans of the NCAA series are used to. Maximum Football 2019 devs also say they’ve juiced up motions such as quarterbacks throwing on the run and defenders shedding blocks.

Those who love the recruiting aspect of the old series are going to be happy as well. The mechanics for building a dynasty appear to be almost identical to the earlier college games. That means players will be able to try and sway a 5-star prospect to their school. Users will also have to decide how exactly they want to spend recruiting points and phone calls. If there is one piece of bad news, it’s that Maximum Football 2019 doesn’t offer file-sharing options.

That means that while you can customize the look and name of teams and players, you’ll have to do all the customizing yourself. That’s a small price to pay for the return of an NCAA Football-like series.

Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football 2019 launches in September for the Xbox One and PS4.
