If you’re a fanboy or fangirl, 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for films. A solo Wonder Woman film is finally getting a release. Spider-Man is returning to the big screen in a new series. Even the Justice League is finally getting the big screen treatment. As long as it’s better than Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, I’m good. However, aside from comic book movies, the Alien franchise will finally return to the big screen. While it’s more or less a sequel to Prometheus, I don;t really consider Prometheus an Alien film. It’s in that universe but it’s more of a spin-off. Alien: Covenantย will be the first Alien film released in ten years. Well, twenty if you don’t count the AVP films. Trust me, I don’t like them any more than you do.
Alien: Covenant officially wrapped production last month and we have just under a year to go until its release. As a result now is the time when we start getting more and more updates, leading up to the release date. While Danny McBride gave his two cents back in July, it seems that another main star, Michael Fassbender has officially spoken out about the film. The actor is currently on his promotional tour for director Derek Cianfrance’s (The Place Beyond The Pines) The Light Between Oceans.
Fassbender, who also has Assassin’s Creed hitting theaters soon, recently spoke with Collider about Alien: Covenant. He revealed that in theย crew of the Covenant discovers Fassbender’s David living on a “dark and dangerous” new world. He went on to describe his excitement over the upcoming Ridley Scott film:
“I have to say, this Alien is going to be โ Iโm really excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying that thereโs a film that we all wanna see. Itโs much scarier than Prometheus, but itโs got that sort of same scope as Prometheus, that imminent sort of disaster feel, that Alien had. So itโs kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. Iโm really excited to see it, I think itโs gonna be super scary, number one. And again, with the massive scope of Prometheus.”
Prometheus is still a disappointment to some fans. Fansย expected a horror film with Xenomorphs crawling everywhere. However, as I already stated, Prometheusย is more of a spin-off. It isย also not a horror film but rather a well-done science fiction film. Based on what Fassbender is saying,ย it looks as though the fanbase will getย what they wantย out of Alien: Covenant. Personally, I just hope it does well enough to greenlight Neil Blomkamp’s Alien movie. FOX, do not disappoint me. I deserve another Ripley film, FOX.
Alien: Covenantย also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Billy Crudup. Noomi Rapace will also be reprising her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw from Prometheus.ย The filmย is set to hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
