Microsoft has revealed that the date of closure for the official Xbox 360 store will be July next year, almost two decades since the landmark console first launched. This news will be bittersweet for the fans who couldn’t bear to leave the good old 360 behind, but there is a silver lining and the opportunity to yet bolster your library of games on the console.

Microsoft revealed the closure of the Xbox 360 store in a blog post authored by Dave McCarthy, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Player Services. In the post, McCarthy reiterates the momentous legacy of the Xbox 360 and the legendary titles that were released for the platform writing:

“It was a generation-defining console that invited many to jump into gaming for the first time and connect with friends around the world. Over the years, weโ€™ve heard stories of players who found a lifelong love of games, starting with the likes of Kameo, Gears of War, Fable 2 and other Xbox 360 classics.”

Players will no longer be able to purchase games, DLC or any other content following the closure of the Xbox 360 store on July 29, 2024. This will also apply to the Xbox Marketplace and as well as the Microsoft Movies & TV app. However, there is some good news. Between now, and the Xbox 360 store closure, players will still be able to purchase games and DLC. They will also still have access to the games that they’ve already purchased.

This also applies to multiplayer games in their library providing that the publisher still offers support for the online servers. Save files will still be uploaded to the cloud and can be carried over should the player choose to continue their progress on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
