Miley Cyrus is setting the record straight. On Saturday, May 10, the “Flowers” singer posted a message on her Instagram Story addressing the rumors that her family is involved in a huge feud. In her post, Miley explained exactly where she stands with her mother after Tish Cyrus mysteriously unfollowed her on Instagram following her reunion with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
Despite many fans speculating that Tish Cyrus had cut ties with her daughter following Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus’ reunion this week, the Hannah Montana actress confirmed that wasn’t true. Miley said she normally wouldn’t bother addressing rumors about her family. However, she felt like she needed to this time since there has been so much misinformation being spread online about her relationship with her parents over the past few days.
To clarify, Miley said that she and her mother are on good terms, and that will never change, no matter what happens. “My mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us,” the pop star wrote. “She’s my best friend.”
If Miley Cyrus and Her Mother Are So Close, Then Why Did Tish Unfollow Her?
Miley Cyrus acknowledged that Tish unfollowing her looks bad, considering the timing with her recent reunion with Billy Ray. However, she reassured fans that her mother wasn’t angry with her and that the Instagram drama was just a misunderstanding. “Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting,” Miley said.
As for her relationship with her father, Miley said that it’s a bit more complicated. The Disney star admitted they’ve had their “challenges over the years.” However, they seemed to have made amends after Miley finally decided to give her father another chance. Apparently, she agreed to reunite after realizing that family should be her “priority.”
Getting to patch things up with her father appears to have done Miley Cyrus a lot of good. “I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing,” she said. “Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
Miley’s message comes just a day after Billy Ray posted a photo of them reuniting in honor of Braison Cyrus’ birthday. In the picture, the country star could be seen posing next to his two children and Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend, Maxx Morando. “Happy Birthday Braison!!!!!” Billy Ray captioned his post.
The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer announced he would be reuniting with Miley earlier this week by sharing a throwback video of his daughter playing the piano. “Can’t wait to see this young lady. Crazy how time flies,” he wrote.
Just hours after posting the clip of Miley, Tish unfollowed her daughter on Instagram. The move caused fans to speculate she was angry with Miley for agreeing to meet with Billy Ray.
Behind the Cyrus Family Feud
Tish and Billy Ray have had their ups and downs throughout their nearly 30-year-long marriage. However, they ultimately decided to divorce in 2022. Since then, Tish has moved on with actor Dominic Purcell, whom she wed in August 2023. That same year, Billy Ray got married to singer Firerose, but has since divorced her.
Despite sharing five children with Billy Ray, only Miley Cyrus, Trace Cyrus, and Brandi Cyrus attended Tish’s wedding to Dominic. Meanwhile, Noah Cyrus and Braison Cyrus skipped the event to go shopping together. Since Noah was wearing a shirt with her father’s face on it the day of her mother’s wedding, fans saw it as a dig toward Tish. Rumors spread that the Cyrus kids took sides in Tish and Billy Ray’s divorce, with Miley deciding to stand beside her mother. In the years following their split, Miley was rumored to grow even more estranged from her father due to his political views.
Thankfully, that all seems to be in the past for Miley and Billy Ray now.
