If you’ve ever wanted to see a pig fly, there’s one easy way: learn how to make a balloon in Minecraft Education Edition. This inflatable folly is an Education Edition specialty, showing off a simple chemical recipe and some feisty floating physics. There are a multitude of different balloon colors you can craft if you have the right ingredients. That’ll make throwing your next Minecraft birthday party a lot easier. Just don’t forget to invite Mojang. The devs might want to see a few pigs fly, too. Here’s how to make a balloon and get your skyward dreams going.

You need four ingredients to make a balloon in Minecraft Education Edition. Unfortunately, getting them is a little more complicated than punching some trees. You’ll need to make use of some special equipment and bend the Periodic Table to your whims. Here are the ingredients you need:

  1. Latex x6 – Created using Carbon x5 and Hydrogen x8 in a Compound Creator
  2. Helium x1 – Created using Protons x2, Electrons x2 and Neutrons x1 in an Element Constructor
  3. Lead x1 – Found in Ancient City and Woodland Mansion chests
  4. Colored dye x1 – Found by crafting flowers, combining dyes, or defeating monsters depending on the color

Don’t be salty; you won’t need Sodium for this one. What you will need are Carbon, Hydrogen, and an Element Constructor to put them together, forming Latex. In Creative Mode, you can find an Element Constructor or grab one from the inventory search menu. If you’re in survival you’ll need to use in-game commands. Just make sure you have “Education Edition” activated in your world settings first if you’re playing on Bedrock.

Next, interact with your Element Constructor to see the Elements screen. There you’ll find a circle with “p+”, “e-“, and “n” icons. These icons and the sliders underneath them represent protons, electrons, and neutrons. Here are the ingredients for the Carbon, Hydrogen, and Helium you need:

  1. Carbon: Protons x6, Electrons x6, and Neutrons x5
  2. Hydrogen: Protons x1, Electrons x1, and Neutrons x0
  3. Helium: Protons x2, Electrons x2, and Neutrons x1

Create the three elements, then go to your Compound Creator. In the 3×3 grid, place 5 Carbon and 8 Hydrogen to get Latex. Make sure you have at least 6 Latex in total. Once you have your Latex and Helium, head to a crafting table and interact with it to craft your first balloon (see image above for recipe). Making a different colored balloon is as easy as swapping a different dye into the top-middle crafting square. You can even use Ink Sacs and Bone Meal to craft Black and White balloons for all your gothic festivities. Happy partying!
