Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro Support Might Not ‘Make It in Time’ for the Hardware Upgrade Launch

Some fans believed that the latest entry in Capcom’s hunting game won’t be running at a stable 60 FPS on a base PS5. Several gamers who’ve tried the demo at this year’s Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show have expressed their disappointment regarding its performance. Not to mention the game requires high PC specs even for minimum settings, likely due to its transition to a seamless open-world design. To make things worse, players eager for improved performance from Monster Hunter Wilds on the upcoming PS5 Pro might also be in for a wait.

Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told IGN the team is still “in the middle of the process” of optimizing for the PS5 Pro’s upgraded specs. Considering the game’s February 28, 2025 release date, it might be too late to ship Monster Hunter Wilds with PS5 Pro adjustments. The console itself will launch on November 7, 2024.

“We’d love to make it in time for launch, but we’re very much in the middle of the process of deciding how that’s going to look.”

Tsujimoto’s previous statement to Japanese media Dengeki Online also reinforces the fact. When asked about the benefits of running Monster Hunter Wilds on a PS5 Pro, Tsujimoto replied that the team is still ‘testing the compatibility.’ For now, players looking for a stable performance on a base PS5 might have to hold their breath.

“Truth be told, we’re still in the process of testing for compatibility with the PS5 Pro, so we can’t provide any clear information at the moment.” Capcom’s CEO’s son said.

Nevertheless, Capcom does see the need to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s enhanced hardware. The Monster Hunter team is getting ‘great support’ from Sony and is excited about ‘the possibilites’ of greater performance.

“We didn’t think there was an option to just leave it on the table. But we are getting great support from Sony in terms of helping us figure out what we’re going to do with that. So it’s an extra thing to think about as part of the development process, but we’re excited for the possibilities,” added Tsujimoto.

The industry is not a stranger to releasing a post-launch hotfix or patch that improves a game’s stability and performance. With that in mind, PS5 Pro might not give significant enhancements to Monster Hunter Wilds until the update. But fingers crossed it can deliver a solid hunting experience on base PS5 and mid-range PCs everywhere.
