Mr. Don’t Believe His Lies is Ready to Abandon Mobile and Return to His Roots With Self-Funded Project Masters of Albion

Maybe we’ll fall for it this time

While it might be too wide of a speculation, if you’ve ever played video games, chances are you’ve played one created by industry legend Peter Molyneux. He’s the mastermind behind the god games Populous and Black & White. If that doesn’t seem familiar, then you probably know his work from the Theme Park or Fable franchises. Now, he’s returned after so many years with the announcement of a completely self-funded game titled Masters of Albion. However, one thing has always remained the same about him: he isn’t to be trusted.

Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. However, as a genuine fan of his games, I can’t help but agree. His games would be infinitely better if he just strayed from ever talking about them before release. For the last decade, however, he’s stayed out of the limelight with 22cans, developing mobile games.

The latest of these games, the Godus series, proved to be the messiest. Having originally been a successful Kickstarter campaign, players were initially expected a spiritual successor to Populous. However, in the years following the game being funded, fans were met with underwhelming results. Before long, the games were all but removed from the Steam store, with the freemium versions still available on mobile devices.

Of course, players would be skeptical of a new game coming from the man himself. However, things look less bleak with the announcement that it’s being completely self-funded. The gameplay seems to mimic those of his god games, but we will need to see for ourselves when more information becomes available officially. At least this is the only game series that Peter Molyneux seems to be actively involved in, since it looks like he was officially kicked off the Fable team with the upcoming new installment.
