DOGE continues to be a menace to society by shutting down government-funded establishments around the country, with the campgrounds of Pennsylvania‘s biggest lake, Raystown Lake, being one of them. It goes without saying that local businesses are taking a massive hit, with many owners predicting they might have to close their doors this summer if things don’t get better. Regular campers and other tourists of the lake now cannot stay at the usual campsites they frequented. “This affects the entire county, not just us,” a business owner tells The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“People are wondering what we did to him to deserve this,” the business owner says, referring to Elon Musk, the mastermind behind DOGE. “This is what you did to the people who voted for you,” he continues, talking about how even Trump supporters are hurting due to all the excessive changes, job losses, and funding cuts taking place across the States. The Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, spoke publicly back in April, saying in an X post that “The federal government may have shuttered their campsites — but ours are open and ready for you.” Unfortunately, not much has changed to help businesses get back on their feet.
A Redditor reacting to this story made a solid point about how ignorant many Americans are about how Musk’s DOGE and Trump’s decisions are negatively affecting literally everyone: “Half the country genuinely thinks that all government spending that doesn’t directly benefit them is fraud, waste or abuse. If it Benefits them, it’s a completely legitimate and necessary government function. They are f***ing stupid.”
“There seems to be very few that actually see this as a failing of Trump or Musk,” another chimes in. “MAGA folks don’t believe Trump can do anything wrong when the opposite is true. We will not recover from this bulls*** in my lifetime,” remarks a third. Although these commenters are definitely bitter, it’s true that many people, including Trump supporters, did not imagine how much of an impact their election vote would have on every aspect of American life. From government-funded education to lake campgrounds, no one is safe from the consequences of those currently in power.
