Masashi Kishimoto. If your ears perk up at the name, then you probably already know that the successor manga/anime to the worldwide esteemed Naruto has officially come to our shores, in both screen and printed form. Kishimoto had been preparing us for Boruto ever since the final Naruto movie and the announcement that the manga and anime were due to end. Just before Boruto landed in the west, though, Kishimoto delivered unto us a short but enthusiastic message about the new series. If you haven’t seen/read Boruto yet, no worries – there are no spoilers here.

It’s only a 20-second watch, but here’s everything Naruto’s real-life dad had to say: “Hello everybody! I’m the creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto. Thank you, everybody, for reading and supporting the manga. I’m really excited about the Boruto manga and anime coming to the U.S. I really hope you enjoy them as well. I hope you enjoy the next generation of the Naruto family!” A nice bonus for fans of the series. Any artist would naturally be thrilled that his/her work became popular even on the other side of the planet, but it’s easy to forget just how much it can really mean to them. Kishimoto took the time to put that short video together for us, which just goes to show the appreciation travels both ways.

As for Boruto himself, he’s the son of Naruto and preparing to take the Chunin Exam. As in the previous anime, things don’t go as expected for the kid, and events quickly spiral downward from bad to dire when the latest threat to the village barges in and takes a certain well-known figure hostage. The show’s being streamed on Crunchyroll, so give it a look.

Keep coming back to The Nerd Stash, we’ve got picture-adorned reading material for everyone. American-made and otherwise.
