After a three-year hiatus, Netflix has officially announced the cast for the next installment in the Fear Street franchise, known as Fear Street: Prom Queen after R. L. Stine’s 1992 novel. The cast includes India Fowler (The Nevers), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Chris Klein (Sweet Magnolias), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From).

Many members of the cast announced the news on social media, much to the excitement of fans. The new batch of talent will replace Stranger Things‘ Sadie Sink, One Piece‘s Emily Rudd, Trinket‘s Kiana Madeira, Julia Rehwald, Little Women‘s Maya Hawke, Cruel Summer‘s Chiara Aurelia, and more.

The synopsis for Stine’s 1992 novel reads as follows:

“A spring night…soft moonlight…five beautiful Prom Queen candidates…dancing couples at the Shadyside High prom—these should be the ingredients for romance. But stir in one brutal murder—then another, and another—and the recipe quickly turns to horror. Lizzie McVay realizes that someone is murdering the five Prom Queen candidates one by one—and that she may be next on the list! Can she stop the murderer before the dance is over—for good?“

Stine announced the exciting news himself back in January with a ‘tweet’ (can we even call it that anymore?) confirming the live-action adaptation was in production over at Netflix. He wrote: “Movie News: I can finally announce that a new ‘Fear Street’ movie is about to go into production for Netflix,” Stine wrote on X/Twitter. “It’s based on my ‘Fear Street’ book, ‘The Prom Queen.’ Good news!”

Prom Queen marks the fourth Fear Street installment succeeding Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. The trilogy draws heavy inspiration from several of Stine’s novels, namely Fear Street Cheerleaders: The First Evil, Lights Out, The Surprise Party, and The Wrong Number — among others.
