Netflix has just released a trailer for a new original series that critics and journalists alike cannot stop talking about.ย The new show is called Stranger Things and as you can see via the below trailer it looks like a good old fashioned creep fest.
The trailer features many classic horror/thriller story tropes; aloof psychic girl and/or child, missing boy, worried mother, the local policeman, government conspiracy, general oddness.ย It looks like it has a chance to be good, and it is generating a lot of buzz online.ย Here are a couple of quotes:

Netflix’s official description states โSet in Hawkins Indiana in the 1980โs, Stranger Things chronicles the search for a young boy who vanishes into thin air under highly suspicious circumstances. His mother (Winona Ryder) opens an investigation into the boyโs disappearance with local authorities that unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl. A love letter to the ubiquitous cult classics of the 80โs, Stranger Things is also a coming of age story for the boyโs three closest friends that draws them into a world where mysteries lurk beneath the surface.โ

The trailer does look pretty top notch, but as many a movie fan can attest, they can be fairly unrepresentative of the end product.ย Fans excited for the show will just have to wait and see. ย Stranger Things premieres on Netflix on July 15th.
