Horizon: Zero Dawn is on the immediate Horizon. Excuse the pun, I couldn’t help myself. Due to its close release date, Guerilla Games have produced several short videos exposing elements of the game. One series of video’s that was recently released was a series known as, “The Machines,” which highlighted some of the fiercer enemies in the game.

The first trailer highlighted the Thunderjaw, a machine with a frame similar to that of a T-Rex. The Thunderjaw is referred to as a ‘combat type,’ machine and be found in large open spaces, within any terrain. The Thunderjaw carry’s machine guns, disc launchers and has a laser that can be fired from its mouth. Its unique ability is that it can scan an area and locate hidden enemies. Your best bet for taking down a Thunderjaw is to aim for its heart or brain core by removing the disc launcher on its back and using it against it.

The Behemoth is a transport type machine found in all types of terrain. It is slightly easier to take down than a Thunderjaw and uses two main attacks, a gravity boulder throw, and a grinding shrapnel blast. Its unique ability is the Gravity Purge, where it creates an anti-gravity field around its body, throwing boulders and dirt in every direction. The best way to defeat this cow like machine is to shoot the hinges holding a cargo container to its belly.

The Stormbird, a large eagle-like machine, is also a combat type and is just as challenging to defeat as the Thunderjaw. The Stormbird’s most prominent manner of attack is through electrical charges. Its unique ability is the Thunder Crash, in which the Stormbird dives directly towards the ground, talons extended. The best way to take down one these avian monstrosities is to disable their lighting gun and then remove their engines.

The Snapmaw is the weakest of the exhibited machines in Horizon: Zero Dawn. This Robot, with an alligator’s body, resides in areas with large amounts of water. This mechanical beast lunges at its prey with open jaws and spits balls of ice cold liquid. The best way to finish them off is by engulfing their cryo sacks in flame.
