New Jersey Officers Save Impaired Driver from Oncoming Train: ‘I Always Feel So Scared for the Train Drivers’

I’m glad he’s safe

Driving while severely impaired can be among the worst things a person can do. Not only does it put you and those in your vehicle in danger, but it also puts those on the road and sidewalks at risk. One New Jersey man proved to be a bigger danger to himself when officers had to physically pull him out of his car because he was too intoxicated to do so himself. Honestly, just watching the video makes me shudder at the thought of what could have happened had officers not been there.

Harrowing footage shows the moment two New Jersey cops rescued an impaired driver with just seconds to spare. Officers in New Jersey came to help an intoxicated man get out of his car in the nick of time. The vehicle being driven by the impaired man can be seen stopped in the center of a set of train tracks. As the officers struggle to pick up the man by his arms and legs, you can see the railroad crossing barricade slowly coming down. Fortunately, the man was taken to safety just as the train came and completely eviscerated his car.

The vehicle had allegedly stopped in the middle of the train tracks, with enough room for the driver to be able to get out and walk to safety. Unfortunately, he was unable to do it on his own. It’s unclear whether the man had called the officers or if they happened to be there by chance. However, it can be universally agreed that the situation would have been very different had they not been there.

Trains do not have the ability to stop as quickly as a car or bus can. If something is in their path, the train conductor is often powerless to prevent a collision. One commenter on the video expressed this sentiment perfectly: “I always feel so scared for train drivers. Imagine the guilt of knowing there’s nothing you can do to stop. All you can do is watch.” It is to be hoped that the man involved in the incident was experiencing a medical emergency and was able to walk away without injury.
