The dinosaurs will roar once again in 2025. After losing David Leitch to direct the next Jurassic World, Gareth Edwards has been hired as the replacement director. When Universal lost its previous filmmaker, it quickly set up a meeting with The Creator director to come in and talk about joining the next installment of the franchise. Now, production is set to speed up to meet its July 2, 2025 release date.
Like the last trilogy being a fresh take, this will be a new era that will give a new spin on the Jurassic Park franchise. Stars from the last trilogy, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and original stars like Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern will not return. The new cast has not been announced.
Gareth Edwards Could Deliver an Epic Scale to Jurassic World as the Director
Gareth Edwards is known for bringing a sense of scale to his films, which could be beneficial to Jurassic World. His background in visual effects has helped him make spectacle blockbusters. He got his start with the indie flick Monsters. That opened the door to start Legendary’s MonsterVerse with 2014’s Godzilla and hopped to a galaxy far, far away with the first Star Wars spinoff film, Rogue One. Last year, he directed his first original film in over a decade with The Creator.
Steven Spielberg and his producing partner Frank Marshall will remain as producers for the next Jurassic movie to maintain their connection to the franchise. Continuing that attachment to the classic, the writer of the 1993 film, David Kepp, will pen the script of the next movie.
The studio does not want too much breathing room between the last trilogy, which grossed about $4 billion, giving major expectations for Gareth Edwards to deliver for Jurassic World. The franchise has grossed a total of $6 billion across every movie.
