A new King Kong game titled Skull Island: Rise of Kong has inspired outrage and ridicule across the internet after its recent release led to the discovery of just how shockingly bad the visuals of the game are. The number of games that are released in sub-standard condition has seemingly increased in recent years, and this King Kong title might be one of the worst examples of a game hitting stores while obviously not release-ready.

Many people may not have even been aware of the new King Kong game with the eerily familiar title for anyone who’s seen the 2017 movie Kong: Skull Island. It had a wide release on October 17th, hitting a wide number of platforms from PC to Xbox and PlayStation, and the early takes on the game are far from positive. Some are even going so far as to say the new title is a scam and an easy contender for one of the worst games of 2023.

To understand why Skull Island: Rise of Kong is receiving such immediate harsh backlash, it’s only necessary to watch some real gameplay footage. The graphics of the game could be described as woefully unfinished at best, and at worst like something that wouldn’t have even flown back in the days of the Sega Saturn and PlayStation 1, much less the PlayStation 5.

Bear in mind that this game is launching with a $49.99 price tag, so the developer and publisher of this title are legitimately taking it seriously, even if the players obviously are not. The game has been published by GameMill Entertainment, who have put out some fairly popular titles like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Cartoon Network Battle Crashers in the past, which makes it really surprising that the company would even touch a game with this incredibly apparent low level of quality. On the publisher’s website, Skull Island: Rise of Kong is nowhere to be found, which may suggest an early attempt at distance from this title, but the game’s listings on the Steam and PlayStation stores are transparent about who’s responsible for this.
