Parenting is not easy, and with the challenges of the modern world, it is even more complicated. However, a new “pandemic” is parents allowing their children to do everything without rules to help their development. For example, in this Reddit post, a pizzeria owner in New York had to confront a Karen for not setting limits for her son, claiming that her son has ADHD and autism.
Redditor Mammoth_Mission_818 shared on r/AITAH that she has been working with her family at their pizzeria for years and that they noticed how there are more and more rude and entitled customers, including children. Recently, there was a problem in the restaurant because a child was watching cartoons at a high volume. OP approached the mother and asked her to turn down the volume to avoid disturbing other clients. Yet, the mother replied that her son has ADHD and autism, and leaving the cartoons on would keep him calm. OP suggested that the child use headphones, but according to the mother, her child didn’t like to use them, so OP asked her to turn the device off.
After 10 minutes, the child started banging on the table, and OP came out to tell the mother to stop him, as she was just ignoring him. The mother only commented that she couldn’t entertain her son without a device before the child started running around, hitting, and throwing things. Another customer even yelled at the mother to control her son, or they would. It was at this point that this mother snapped into a Karen reciting a speech about her son having ADHD and autism in the middle of this New York pizzeria:
I have an autistic son. When he was younger (4/5ish) he was AWFUL in restaurants. So guess what we did? We didn’t go out to eat. Some autism people will say I deprived him of experiences but I see it as I avoided triggers. Guess what? He is a well behaved 24 year old who wasn’t traumatized because he didn’t get to go out to eat for a few years. We were ALL much happier.

OP was fed up and told Karen that she should leave if she couldn’t control her son. Of course, the Karen accused OP of discriminating against people on the spectrum. But OP’s husband put Karen’s food in the to-go boxes and told her to “get out right now!” Karen replied some more about discriminating against people. Still, this pizzeria does not discriminate against anyone except the entitled parents who turn their children into brats.
