As part of Nintendoโ€™s 35th anniversary for Mario, many players have been enjoying the renditions of classic Mario titles on the Switch. Some of these ports have been called lesser versions of the originals. Leaked in early March, fans were wary because of Nintendoโ€™s track record with fixing things that shouldnโ€™t need it. When Nintendo finally announced it, some changes were called into question. One of the most controversial is the use of an updated version of Super Mario 64 that removed Backwards Long Jumping, a popular speed running strategy. Not to mention the non-native support for GameCube controllers and the forced non-inverted camera controls for Super Mario Sunshine. Thankfully, in a recent update, Nintendo has patched in full support for GameCube controllers and given players the options to switch camera directions.

Originally announced in late October, Nintendo has been listening to some fan criticism of the release. With over 2 months since launch now, Nintendo has had plenty of time to put the polish on their title and give players the options to play how they like. However, the update comes with some caveats for those looking to play with a GameCube controller on the go. The newly added support for this controller method requires a docked Switch displaying to the TV. This also means that this feature is exclusive to the Switch and not the Switch Lite. Keep that in mind if you plan to try this for yourself.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is an impressive collection of titles from Nintendoโ€™s past that have become perfectly emulated on an official Nintendo release. The new update has given a significant feature re-included to celebrate the ways players remember playing these games. While the game is only available until March 31, 2021 fans still have plenty of time to jump right into the experience. After which, the game will be removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop.
