My Nintendo, the successor to Club Nintendo, is aimed at offering greater rewards to gamers across multiple Nintendo and mobile platforms. Currently, Japanese gamers who own Monster Hunter X have access to a special 30% discount on certain other titles, including Monster Hunter Diary, Fire Emblem Fates, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and Majora’s Mask 3D. Those latter three are major titles, and being able to grab them for nearly a third off the original price is an impressive deal. Considering the discounts are offered for merely owning a certain game already bodes well for this newest rewards program.

Battle monsters. Earn video games. That's not Monster Hunter X's actual plot, but it's essentially what this My Nintendo deal is about.
Battle monsters. Earn video games. That’s not Monster Hunter X’s actual plot, but it’s essentially what this My Nintendo deal is about.

Having been running for a while in Japan already, My Nintendo is scheduled to open up in the west this March, possibly around the same time as Nintendo’s first mobile app, Miitomo, is set to release. The account system also seeks to further link the separate Nintendo systems in some way; however, that might be as simple as sharing the same account and details across all platforms. The image at the top of the article does suggest that, like many websites, the gaming devices will connect to multiple social media to expand the players’ gaming and interactive experiences.

Finally, one of the more interesting notions about My Nintendo is that players can earn points simply by playing their games. With Club Nintendo, coins were earned by registering games and taking surveys, and customers redeemed these coins for a variety of rewards. The new point system should work in largely the same way, similar to achievements in all likelihood. Plus, with Nintendo expanding its reach into worlds and markets beyond gaming, players may be able to earn some truly exciting stuff just from enjoying their favorite titles. My Nintendo seems to be off to a good start, and hopefully the next Direct presentation isn’t too far off.
